Local services or a High Speed Rail White Elephant:
How would you spend £34 billion?
We need tens of thousands of people who live off the proposed route of HS2 to write to their MPs and respond to the HS2 consultation document. The first step on this path is to ask everyone to contact six of their friends or relations (off route) so that they write to their MP and fill in the consultation response. If they in turn pass the message on to six of their friends and relations, then that helps even more.
We would urge you to contact 6 of your friends or relations who live off the proposed route of HS2 to contact their MP and fill in the consultation questionnaire. You will find attached some documents which are intended to be of help. One is the basis of a letter which you could use to contact your friends or relations to help them gain an understanding of HS2 and its shortcomings. I am sure you are quite capable of constructing your own letters, but we would like to make the whole process as easy as possible. You will also find the basis of a letter which can be sent to their MP about HS2; this could be sent as a letter or email. Your friends can find out how to contact their MP by entering their post code in a website whose link has been provided. The other thing which will greatly help this cause is for your friends and relations to respond to the HS2 consultation questions. Again we have some advice on how to do this and it doesn’t have to take a long time. Your friends can also spread the message to six of their friends.
It is absolutely vital that as many people as possible complete both these activities and it is likely that more weight will be attached to those living off route. We are now just over half way through the consultation period and you should bear in mind there will be no public enquiry.
The campaign which ended the Forestry Commission sell off involved tens of thousands of people writing to their MPs. We need to generate the same momentum. You could make a difference. If you don’t act now, opportunities to object in the future are likely to be almost non existent. Please get the ball rolling this week.
Your Country needs you – to write to your MP and respond to the consultation
